- Minnesota Department of Tourism is the only state that has its own map of the Great River Road. It is much more detailed than the map of the whole road.
- The National Geographic book "Guide to Scenic Highways & Byways" (Third Edition) has some very good summaries of the road through some of the states.
- A series of four books "Discover America's Great Rive Road" by Pat Middleton covers the road from just south of St. Paul to New Orleans (I wish they had one for the portion from Itasca to St. Paul). It has the most detail.
- There is a great series of articles on
Rock Island(the Railroad, the song and the island) at Public Radio at http://news.minnesota.publicradio.org/features/200210/15_bickalj_rockisland/. Minnesota
